I'm a firm believer in positivity, empowerment, and the healing power of movement.
My name is Dr. Stephanie Duffey. I'm a physical therapist, runner, and lover of travel and adventure...oh, and chocolate.
I started my own practice, Empower Physio and Wellness, simply because I wanted to offer more to my clients. I wanted the time to devote 110% of my energy to the person in front of me without having to rush off to treat someone else, or feeling the brain fog from treating so many people in one day. I wanted to talk to people about things like nutrition, sleep, self-care, healthy lifestyle, and help them achieve their true goals- without being limited by fast-paced business structures and insurance companies. My clients wanted more from me as well, and I wanted to take them to the next level.
I knew I wanted to be a physical therapist for two reasons:
I have always valued the power of movement and physical activity for the well-being of the body and mind, even from a young age.
Working with people energizes me, especially helping people overcome their struggles by enabling them to return to the activities they love.
Though I have always been active, I didn’t like running until after I played field hockey in high school. I actually despised running before that. However, I came to embrace the power of running and have completed 5 half marathons and one full marathon to-date. Running is my outlet, my stress relief, and a way to stay sane throughout the stresses and anxieties of life.
I have dealt with running injuries myself. Years of knee pain caused me to be on and off the road. Those “off” times were so frustrating and kind of depressing. After one particularly bad flare-up in 2017, I knew something needed to change. I was about to start training for the Disney Princess half-marathon and had no idea how I’d get to 13.1 miles when I could barely run a quarter mile. I finally asked for help and saw a physical therapist, because sometimes you can’t do it all yourself. After dry needling and diligent strength training, I went on to not only finish my half marathon, but I extended my training to run the Flying Pig Marathon.
The sense of liberation and pure joy that I get from running without pain is something I want to share with others. As a once-injured runner, I understand the toll that it takes on you. I want to help you stay healthy and on the road – for life.
I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from The Ohio State University in 2017. I worked in outpatient orthopedics in Cincinnati until opening my own practice. I was trained in dry needling by Dr. Ma’s Integrative Dry Needling and also have mentorship from physical therapists trained under Kinetacore. Dry needling has helped me on my running journey and I'm excited to offer it to my clients as well.
Let's chat. I want to hear your story and take you to a higher level than you ever thought you could achieve.
