Physical Therapy

In short, physical therapy is for anyone who wants to feel or move better.

We see you out there…

…spending precious energy and brain space analyzing every movement to determine if you’ll “pay for it” with pain the next day (or days)

…saying, “Ugh, I can’t do that because of my bad **insert body part here**”

…annoyed by that nagging pain you just want to be GONE

…spending years on the roller coaster of pain and injury and at this point you’re just living with it (but really would rather not)

…trying so many things to feel better, but haven’t worked, and wishing you could find a provider who thinks outside the box

…having gotten 80% better with physical therapy in the past, but can’t quite seem to get to 100% (and you know deep down that you should get back to 100%)

…giving the “protocol” program a try, but thinking you need something more individualized than the standard protocol treatment

…sick and tired of feeling crappy, but you don’t have much extra energy to do anything about it

We can help with all of this.

We created our own approach to physical therapy care, and we love it because it works.

Gone are the days of a dude in khaki pants stretching hamstrings all day while telling another patient to do 3x10 of the next exercise on the list.

We see you as a unique human with unique needs. Your pain, frustration, and fears are real, and they are important to us. We will meet you where you are and get you back to the life you loved before it revolved this pain, frustration, and fear.

We are meticulous in our assessment and treatment so that we are efficient in helping you hit your goals. We are constantly assessing you to make sure you’re making progress towards your goals. Time, money, and energy are precious and we promise to respect your resources as our own.

Our Philosophy

At Empower Physio and Wellness, we value trauma informed, resilience focused, hope infused care.

We are trauma informed because people almost always have at least a small trauma experience connected to their current limitation. Trauma is as simple as being in pain or being unable to do something you value. We consider these past traumas, big and small, and how they are currently affecting your life.

We are resilience focused because physical and mental resilience are so important for thriving through life. We guide you in maximizing physical and mental strength so you are equipped with the tools you need to handle future challenges life throws at you.

We are hope infused because hope is sorely lacking in the current health space. We are positive and honest with you about your current limitations and infuse hope in what your future life can look like. The sky is the limit for what you can achieve.

Above all, we are focused on YOU. You get your physical therapist’s full attention because we love getting to know you super well! Our focus is to give you what you need at each session, always thinking outside the box.

Let us bring joy and peace back to your life. With our expert guidance, you can get back to the life you love faster and with more ease than if you tried to figure it all out yourself.

We got you. Let us take the guesswork and shopping around out of the equation so you can get back to doing the things you love with the people you love most.

Our process at Empower Physio and Wellness

  • Calm

Let’s be honest, you’re here on our website because you want to get out of pain. That’s why calming pain is our first step. Once we have a very clear picture of what the problem is, we implement simple and effective strategies to start bringing your pain levels down right away. We don’t believe that you have to do 15 exercises every day for three months in order to start seeing results. Most of our clients start feeling better after the first one or two visits.

  • Retrain

Most aches, pains, and injuries come about because of movement compensations over time. That’s why it is important to re-train and optimize the way your body moves. We also focus on re-training your brain and nervous system to better process stress and optimize recovery so that you build overall resilience.

  • Empower

Once you are feeling and moving better, it’s time to get you strong! Stronger people are harder to kill (literally…studies show strong people have a 25% less likelihood of premature death). Current research emphasizes the importance of muscle strength, so in this phase we are locking in all the great work we did in the first two phases with building muscle strength. And we don’t mean 2-lb curls. We prescribe robust, total-body strength in a way that is super accessible to you.

  • Empower PLUS

At this point, you are feeling awesome! We see it all the time that our clients want to do things they never thought they could do- go on an adventure vacation, play on the ground and run around with their grandkids, do a 5k race or even a half marathon, be active and present in the moment (instead of analyzing if they’ll pay for it the next day)…the options are endless. We are here to support you throughout life, help you continue to feel great, and offer body tune-ups–bodies need regular attention just like cars do. Whatever you need, we got you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, we are a cash based physical therapy clinic.

The main reasons for being a cash based clinic are:

    1. We want to be transparent with you about the cost of service.

    2. We want to provide the highest quality care for you as a unique individual.

Just because a service is covered under your insurance plan, doesn’t mean it is cost effective. There are people who get surprised by $600 bills for a physical therapy evaluation. Let’s be honest, no one has the time or energy to fight with an insurance company about that! Here you know EXACTLY how much care costs before you say yes.

Helping you reach your goals is our number one priority! We would rather have a 1:1 relationship with YOU–not your insurance company–so that we can get to know the exact nature and cause of your pain and provide the most appropriate and individually tailored services that will actually make you feel better. We also want to provide you with tools to help you avoid future problems so you feel empowered for the long-term.

We know that it’s an investment, but it’s an investment in yourself and your well-being. You shouldn’t have to waste time, money, and energy with services that aren’t exactly what you need.

Consider the opportunity cost of continuing to worry if you’ll ever feel better and spending more time NOT doing the things you love. Let’s get after it efficiently. We believe that patient and physical therapist driven care is the best way for us to help you reach your goals!

Upon request, we are happy to provide superbills, which is an itemized receipt with all the codes insurance companies need to process claims. You can submit this to your insurance company. Once processed, your insurance company will reimburse you directly for any benefits you receive. Some of our clients get nearly all of their investment reimbursed, others don’t; it all depends on your insurance plan. We recommend calling your insurance provider if you have questions about your plan benefits.

  • Our evaluations are 90 minutes and cost $275. This allows us to do a thorough evaluation, explain your recovery plan to you, and get started on treatment that first visit! We go into a lot of detail and our clients love this extended 1:1 time.

Follow up visits are 60 minutes and cost $200. We offer packages that include a discount. You and your physical therapist will discuss which package may be appropriate for you at your evaluation.

We offer 30 minute express sessions for $125 and 90 minute extended sessions for $275. These are available for current clients only who have completed a plan of care.

  • We treat the body from head to toe, but here are some of our favorites:

    • Headaches and migraine

    • Jaw/TMJ pain and TMD (temporomandibular disorders)

    • Neck and shoulder pain

    • Back and hip pain

    • Sciatica, occipital neuralgia, “pinched nerves”, and other nerve problems

    • Running and exercise-related injuries

    • Chronic compensations

    • Persistent pain

    • Trauma and emotional related pain

  • Prior to your first visit, you will receive a welcome video with introductory information as well as directions on how to access our office.

During your first visit, you and your physical therapist will first talk in detail about your symptoms, what makes them better and worse, the history of your pain or injury, lifestyle factors (including sleep, stress, nutrition, and exercise), and your goals. It is very comprehensive! We want to get to know you super well so we can best support you.

After that, your physical therapist will do a movement assessment. She will check your strength, range of motion, how you move, and get a feel for the muscles and joints.

You’ll then sit down together to talk about what’s going on and develop your individualized plan to hit your goals. It is important that you fully understand both the problem and the solution!

Lastly, your physical therapist will get you started on treatment so you can start feeling better right away!

  • This varies depending on how long your symptoms have been going on, your goals, and the amount of support you desire.

For problems that have been going on for just a few days or weeks and aren’t terribly intense, we can often get it cleared up in just a few sessions. (This is another reason to not let your aches and pains fester- they grow into bigger, more complicated problems.)

For problems that have been around for years or are very intense, it will take longer to get you back to feeling like yourself. We typically start with weekly appointments for 4-6 weeks, then space appointments out to every other week, every 3 weeks, and then monthly.

We are always willing to work with you to create a plan that fits your time, money, and energy. We just want you to feel better!

  • Absolutely! You working on things at home is super important for long-term success.

Now, this does not mean that you have to do the same 15 exercises every day to feel better.

We take great care to customize your plan to you, your time, and your energy. We know you aren’t going to do an hour-long routine on a daily basis. We want to be very efficient with your home program.

The things to work on at home aren’t only exercises. We teach nervous system regulation techniques, lifestyle habits, posture optimization, and more. These things are sometimes more important than any exercise you may be given.

We use a video platform called Hedge Health for your home program. Our clients love it! Videos of your exercises are all organized in one place for easy access- you can even check it off once you’ve completed it!
